Premieres and Notables; September 7-14, 2009

My friends at TV Guide decided to skip the noteworthy episode lists (where the bulk of this info comes from) right before the listings in this week's issue. So thanks, you piece of crap magazine. I'll just slog through the Fall Preview listings to try to hit the dates on my own.

I may have renewed my subscription-- but I haven't paid for it yet.

We'll see if I end up sending a check as every other week (since it's barely a weekly mag anymore), I get more disappointed.

Anyway, the Fall 2009 Season kicks off this week with The CW and FOX getting early starts. Things ramp up next week and explode the week after. I guess all the DVDs and tapes I planned on watching over the summer and didn't will have to go into storage until May.


Monday, 9/7

Durham County; ION. 9 pm. Series Premiere.
I have no idea what it's about as I've never clicked to ION before (and for all the ads in TV Guide, it mentions nothing about it). I take that back-- hidden in the listings is this description of the pilot: "A detective relocates to a quiet suburban community to start a new life."


Tuesday, 9/8

The View; ABC. 10 am CST. Season Premiere.
Yippee!!

The Tyra Banks Show; The CW. 3 pm CST. Season Premiere.
Yippee!! Yippee!!

90210; The CW. 7 pm. 2nd Season Premiere.

Melrose Place; The CW. 8 pm CST. Series Premiere.
Mix The CW 90210's approach with an old name (and old faces), and see a big name dead within the first ten minutes (c'mon-- 90210 did it better with the B.J. in the first scene), and you can pretty much know what to expect here.

Sons of Anarchy; FX. 9 pm. 2nd Season Premiere.

Wednesday, 9/9

So You Think You Can Dance; FOX. 7 pm. Season Premiere.

America's Next Top Model; The CW. 7 pm. Season Premiere.

Glee; FOX. 8 pm CST. Series/Season Premiere.
Not sure if "series premiere" is accurate as they aired the pilot last May, but this is the first episode of an extended number of episodes (until it loses all momentum when the baseball playoffs happen next month). And it's only a 13 episode season (so far).
This show about a high school glee club is way better than you'd think it was. I really enjoyed the sneak-peek episode, and I expect it to only get better. This is the show FOX is pinning its entire Fall on, and I think they may finally have a winner in that regards since Prison Break's debut 4 years ago.
Highly Recommended.

Leverage (TNT; 8 pm CST). Summer Finale.
It'll be back in a few months.

Destination Truth; SyFy. 9 pm. Season Premiere.


Thursday, 9/10

The Vampire Diaries; The CW. 7 pm CST. Series Premiere.
This show based on the young-adult novels has had to fight off accusations that it's a Twilight rip-off , and will probably go overboard on the sex (it is The CW) to convince people they have their own, superior, product.
Anyway, the premise is pretty much: two vampire brothers-- one "good" and one "bad"-- vie for the same girl. Hijinks ensue.
I'm not sure if this will be a show I will continue to watch (I'll try the first ep or two), but it was created by Kevin Williamson, who Dawson's Creek, so maybe the younger crowd will go for it.

Supernatural; The CW. 8 pm CST. Season Premiere.

Say Yes to the Dress; TLC. 8 pm. Season Premiere.

20/20; ABC. 9 pm. Season Premiere.


Saturday, 9/12

COPS; FOX. 7 pm. Season Premiere.

America's Most Wanted; FOX. 8 pm. 23rd Season Premiere.

Robin Hood; BBC America. 8 pm. 3nd Season Premiere.

Adoption Diaries; WEtv. 9 pm. Series Premiere.
A feel-good show where birth mothers and adoptive parents work together.


Sunday, 9/13

King of the Hill (FOX; 7-8 pm). Series Finale.
Some of the shine had worn off since its fantastic first few seasons, but this was still one of the best "traditional" family comedies airing during its 13-year run, animated or not.

True Blood (HBO; 8 pm). Season Finale.

Condensed SOUP, 9/3/09
