Maybe pigs will fly after all

For years, whenever I hear any new Van Halen news, I shrug and admit "I'm not holding my breath."

Well, looks like something is actually happening with Van Halen with this little message from the band.

It can with a lame video saying they're going on tour in February with tickets going on sale as early as January 10th.

Okay-- I'm still not going to believe a tour is coming until they set foot on a stage in front of a few people; nor will I believe an album is real until I put it in my CD player.

But it looks like they're making some progress. After years of Edward saying, "Yeah, man, I write all the time. I've got tons of stuff written," some of that writing may actually make it on an album and some songs on a tour.

The True Meaning of Christmas?

Okay. So it's creepy.

But it cracked me up.

Premieres and Notables: December 26, 2011- January 1, 2012

Whoops.

Last week, I missed the Doctor Who (BBC America) marathons on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day; all culminating with the newest Christmas Special at 8 pm CST on the 25th. Check it out.

I don't know how I could have missed mentioning it last time...

I save Doctor Who for when I'm alert and can only focus on the episode, which puts me behind (namely I haven't seen a new episode since the last Christmas Special). But, of course, waiting also puts me in the position of finally owning the sixth season on glorious Blu-Ray (thank you, Barnes & Noble for your Blu-Ray 40% off sale combined with a nice 30% off coupon, so the final price was merely "high" as opposed to the usual "ridiculous" for a BBC title...), so that's not a bad way to catch up.

You can catch up on the sixth season just by tuning into BBC America Christmas Day...

Okay, on to the bound-to-be short premieres post:

Monday, 12/26

The Closer (TNT; 8 pm CST). Winter Finale.

Rizzoli and Isles (TNT; 9 pm CST). Winter Finale.

Tuesday, 12/27

Texas Multi Mamas; We TV. 7 pm CST. Series Premiere.
Six moms of multiple (twins, triplets, etc) get the families together.

Extreme Couponing All-Stars; TLC. 9 pm CST. Series Premiere.
Twelve couponers compete to find out who is the best.

Thursday, 12/29

Hook, Line and Sisters; TLC. 9 pm CST. Series Premiere.
Two pro fisherwomen (who I'm guessing from seeing the title are sisters-- unless TLC would lie to us) make a go at deep-sea fishing in Alaska.

Friday, 12/30

Infested! Animal Planet. 8 pm CST. Series Premiere.
Bug-bustin' Animal Planet style.
Interesting to see that bugs don't get the pretty "save the species" shows that other animals do...

^^^Ah, now I know why I missed mentioning the Doctor Who Christmas Special last week: because TV Guide wastes page space on the above bullshit shows and doesn't often mention great TV like the good Doctor's show...

Saturday, 12/31

I haven't seen an ep in a while, but I'm sure Phineas and Ferb (Disney XD) is still awesome. Maybe I'll catch up during the 13-hour marathon that begins at 10 am CST.

Sunday, 1/1

Rachael Ray vs. Guy Celebrity Cook-Off; Food Network. 8 pm CST. Series Premiere.
Ray and Fieri coach celebs for a cook-off.

Angry Boys; HBO. 9 pm CST. Series Premiere.
Finally!!! A new show I don't feel disgust mentioning this week.
Chris Lilley (of the brilliant Summer Heights High) brings us this new show about young men and the troubles they face in Australia. And, as in previous shows, he plays multiple roles.
I am completely pumped about this show. Highly recommended.

Speaking of Chris Lilley, HBO OnDemand and HBO Go are offering both of Lilley's previous series up until the Angry Boys premiere. I haven't caught We Can Be Heroes yet (I fully plan to this week), but Summer Heights High was genius.

I wrote about it here and here.
