Premieres and Notables; February 22-28, 2010

Last week, I said I was going to try to keep up with all the Olympic coverage...
Yeah, that lasted until Tuesday when there was over eighteen hours of coverage.

Yep-- in 2014, I'm taking vacation time.  Before I die, I will watch an entire Olympiad.

Anyway, I decided to stick with men's curling because curling's cool-- and the U.S. team is made up of Minnesotans, three of which are from Duluth-- my childhood home-- and a fourth is from (relatively) nearby Chisolm.

I also stuck with women's hockey; again, because of the Duluth connection (17 Olympians on six of the eight teams have some connection to the University of Minnesota-Duluth).

I'll also try to watch the major U.S. men's hockey games. I mean, I'm a Duluth boy; of course I'm going to watch hockey...

And, finally, I'm watching all the women's curling, again because I think the sport is fun to watch (having "discovered" it in the 2006 Olympics)-- as well as because there's at least one smokin' hot athlete on each team (that I've seen so far).  Each team seemed to have an even cuter member than the team before them-- until I got to Denmark's team.  They sometimes wear skirts.  How cool is that?  Sure, they wear heavy, black tights with the skirts, but-- skirts!  Again, I say: how cool is that?

Anyway, lots of great stuff went on last week. And this is the last week to check it out.

Frankly, I'm rooting for the U.S. hockey teams to come out on top, but if it doesn't happen, I gotta pull for Canada. If either team wins gold, the country is gonna go crazy.

If both teams win gold, we will witness our neighbors to the North completely losing their shit.

But we are talking Canada. I don't expect any Boston or Detroit-level riots with a win.

Just to explain how polite Canada is, after their women's hockey team pummeled the Slovakian team (in its first Olympic appearance) 18-0, the Canadian fans gave the Slovaks a standing ovation.  It was with complete sincerity and was a way to acknowledge that the underdogs didn't give up-- and that their goalie played a remarkable game, even if 18 pucks got across the line.  (Trust me, the score could have been much, much worse).

It was a classy move.  And one of my favorite moments of this Olympiad.

So, onto (mostly) non-Olympics TV:

Monday, 2/22

Men of a Certain Age (TNT; 9 pm CST). Season Finale.
This series got better, quickly, after its slow-moving pilot.  I'll miss it.

Wednesday, 2/24

Snoop Dogg makes another cameo on One Life to Live (ABC; 1 pm CST).  I'm not sure why he does, but I had to mention it because it seems so... random.

Aaron Stone; Disney XD. 7 & 7:30 pm CST. Season Premiere.

The Inbetweeners; BBC America. 8:30 pm. 2nd Season Premiere.
Yeah, yeah, BBC shows have short seasons, and this just follows the end of the first season last week, but I won't turn down a chance to mention my new favorite show again.

Thursday, 2/25

Women's ice hockey gold medal game (expect USA vs. Canada) at 5 pm on MSNBC.

The Deep End (ABC; 7 pm CST). Season Finale.

Friday, 2/26

Women's curling gold medal game at 5 pm on CNBC.

Live From Abbey Road; Sundance. 7 pm CST. 3rd Season Premiere.
Featuring Seal, Counting Crows, Matchbox Twenty, and Sugarland.

Saturday, 2/27

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse; Disney. 8 am. Season Premiere.

Men's curling gold medal game at 5 pm on CNBC.

Pit Boss (Animal Planet; 9 pm CST). Season Finale.

Sunday, 2/28

Men's ice hockey gold medal game (remember what I said if Canada wins?) at 11 am on NBC.

Olympic Closing Ceremony at 6 pm on NBC.

The Marriage Ref; NBC. 9:30 pm (I'd "record-long" if you're DVR-ing it). Series Premiere.
Jerry Seinfeld produces this humorous show which settles disputes between spouses.

Tim and Eris Awesome Show, Great Job! adult swim. 11:30 pm. 5th Season Premiere.
A show that is even too "out there" for me.
