Television Premieres and Notables: April 3-9, 2017

Tuesday, 4/4

DC's Legends of Tomorrow (CW; 7 pm CST). Season Finale.
My "most improved" show of 2017.
I liked the first season well enough, but it never gelled together.
After a slower start-- and I think a conscious decision by the showrunner to lean into the goofiness of the concept-- it really picked up and is the first DC show I watch for the week.
I'm bummed it's leaving so early, but at least I'll be able to continue seeing Dominic Purcell (who's been crushing it as Mick Rory this year) in:

Prison Break; Fox. 8 pm CST. Mini-series Premiere.
This is the shiz-nit right here!
It's been eight years since this show ended-- and a person or two "died".
But it's back, in a nice, concise, nine-episode "season" that does end (at least that's promised).
Of course, I'm guessing some seeds are planted to allow a revisit if this one is a big hit.

This time, Lincoln is trying to break Michael out of a prison in Yemen. Sara, C-Note, Sucre, Agent Kellerman, and T-Bag(!) all make appearances.

I'll admit, I was really into this show the first season (I think a lot of early posts to this blog were about it), but it did overstay its welcome. It became a hit, so the back nine eps had to be padded to get to the first season finale. Then three more seasons (one shortened by a writer's strike) were produced on a concept that really was only thought-out for one more (the original concept was one season for the breakout and one for the manhunt).

But it'll be fun to watch Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell (who have been great parts of the CW's Arrowverse) back as these characters. And Robert Knepper is back as T-Bag. The best.

iZombie; CW. 8 pm CST. Third Season Premiere.

Wednesday, 4/5

Archer; FXX. 9 pm CST. Season Premiere.
I've seen the season called "Noir" and "Dreamland", and it looks like it takes place in the 1930's-'40s.
[And I don't remember what network aired the last season, but it's possible it was FX, so make sure you check your DVR settings.]

Brockmire; IFC. 9 pm CST. Series Premiere.
Hank Azaria plays a baseball announcer who is trying to get back his career after an on-air meltdown.

Friday, 4/7

The Get Down; Netflix. Streaming, Mid-season Premiere.
The back half of S1 drops today.
